<description>Also 36 weeks is approximately 9 months. Much more than the 4 month waiting period being described. I think this shows that even when a nation decides to pull out its not a case of instantly transporting your troops home. Also I'm curious how by controlling the purse strings the democrats would bring home the troops? does this mean we would stop paying them 40 hours a week? (I hear we already don't pay overtime for soldiers in Iraq.) Or instead would this mean that we cut off their rations? Please if someone could elaborate on that I'd appreciate it.

I next would like to question the political ramifications of forcing George Bush to withdraw troops from Iraq. How does this help us with the other issues that need to be addressed? If Democrats force a pull out from Iraq will George Bush then veto healthcare reform as happened during the Clinton presidency? Or instead perhaps revenge for such a slight might come in the form of finding a way to get legislation passed that will make current Democrats look bad. Or even worse maybe we would see a split between left and right wing Democrats.

In the end I just wish people would stop painting this as a black and white issue. There are serious questions that need to be answered before we start calling for withdrawal and I fear they are not truely being asked. I am certain they are not addressed in this article.

<description>Some of this I agree with. People who are not willing to fight for their own liberation can't be set free and then told they are free. Also it doesn't help to then tell them how to do things because at that point you have fundamentally taken away their freedom. However I don't believe that our inability to secure the road to the airport has anything to do with having lost the war. Its more fundamental than that. It comes down to our country not having done the proper preparation for a war and then staying to fight one that we were not prepared for.

To truely fight a war a country must adjust its economic, social, and military structure to support the troops. Our country has not done that. Where are the companies that would have in world war II built the planes, tanks, jeeps, etc that were used in the war? Where is the draft that we had in World War II? Where is the social support for this war? Its not there. These are the reasons we have lost. If we had gone into Iraq with the national support that we had in World War II it would not be a lost war.
