Let our people move

Daoud Kuttab

A little over a year ago, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Quartet envoy James Wolfensohn, Israeli defense minister Shaul Mofaz, the PA’s Muhammad Dahlan and the EU reached an agreement to allow Palestinians free movement in and out of the Gaza Strip.

The Agreement on Movement and Access (AMA) signed on November 15, 2005 promised Palestinians freedom of movement of people and goods. A detailed fact sheet published by the Palestinian Monitoring Group shows that since last year, none of the agreement’s provisions have been fully implemented by Israel.

The AMA sought to facilitate the movement of Palestinian people and goods between Gaza and Israel (through crossing points between the two areas); between Gaza and the West Bank (through bus and truck convoys running between the two parts of the occupied Palestinian territory); within Palestinian communities in the West Bank, including east Jerusalem (by working to dismantle the internal closure regime, which consists of hundreds of checkpoints and fixed obstacles to movement between Palestinian communities in the West Bank); between Gaza and the West Bank; and to third countries (by opening the Rafah crossing point between Gaza and Egypt, allowing Palestinians to build a seaport in Gaza, and allowing Gaza’s airport to reopen).

Israel Agrees to Entry of Palestinian Militia From Jordanian to Gaza

It is no secret that Israel is supporting a covert insurgency war aligned with Fatah to undermine the Hamas-led civillian government in the Palestinian Occupied Territories. After all, to fund the other is to neutralise both. Paying off Fatah to relegate them as a Zionist slave-client, while at the same time using them to destroy Hamas, the Islamic movement which is the only viable threat to Israel, is certainly a smart political move on their part. Thus the dirty politics of the Zionists and Jews come into play….

(IsraelNN.com) Israel has agreed in principle to the deployment of 1,000 members of the Fatah-affiliated Badr Brigade in Gaza. The militia will be placed primarily in northern Gaza in the hope they will act on behalf of Fatah chief Mahmoud Abbas and seek to prevent Kassam rocket attacks on Israeli population centers. The force would be added to the 13,000 PA (Palestinian Authority) security forces deployed in the area.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert set two conditions for the arrival of the Jordanian brigade, that they do not come with their families, a move he fears would be interpreted as Israel giving in on its objections to the so-called Palestinian right of return. In addition, Olmert stated Israel will have the right to demand that the Jordanian soldiers leave Gaza at any time.

Recent Lebanon war costs Israel 1.5 billion

The illegal Zionist entity has approved the payment of 1.5 billion shekels ($350 million) to help cover expenses incurred by Israel’s war with Lebanese Hezbollah guerrillas this past summer. The extra spending will boost the budget deficit to 2.9 percent of gross domestic product from a planned 2.0 percent in 2007. Will not be long before they will go economically bankrupt.

Israel is a failure as a nation-state.

JERUSALEM, Nov 28 (Reuters) - Israel’s parliamentary Finance Committee on Tuesday approved a payment of 1.5 billion shekels ($350 million) to help cover expenses incurred by Israel’s war with Lebanese Hezbollah guerrillas this past summer.

As part of the month-long war that ended on August 14, Hezbollah fired some 4,000 rockets at northern Israel while Israel air strikes pounded Hezbollah targets in Lebanon. Israel also deployed ground troops in Lebanon.

The Defence Ministry has sought billions of shekels in order to restock on ammunition and equipment and to help prevent future attacks.
