This report consists of a series of case studies that compare Israel’s different treatment of Jewish settlements to nearby Palestinian communities throughout the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. It describes the two-tier system of laws, rules, and services that Israel operates for the two populations in areas in the West Bank under its exclusive control, which provide preferential services, development, and benefits for Jewish settlers while imposing harsh conditions on Palestinians.

The report highlights Israeli practices the only discernible purposes of which appear to be promoting life in the settlements while in many instances stifling growth in Palestinian communities and even forcibly displacing Palestinian residents. Such different treatment, on the basis of race, ethnicity, and national origin and not narrowly tailored to meet security or other justifiable goals, violates the fundamental prohibition against discrimination under human rights law.

We the civil society representatives of the peoples of East Asia and South-East Asia, gathered in Shah Alam , Malaysia on 3-4 November 2010, having discussed and deliberated on the Asian Caravan to Gaza in support of the Palestinian National Liberation struggle hereby declare:

The Palestinian struggle for freedom is the defining & central geopolitical issue of our times & the Palestinian Intifada stands as the vanguard of the international resistance to imperialism and Zionism.

We extend our solidarity to the courageous people of Palestine in their struggle, resistance and intifada against the Zionist Israeli occupation and affirm our commitment to:

Right of self-determination  for the Palestinians;

Stop the Zionist occupation of Palestine;

The equation for the rights of all in the historic Palestinian state;

Right of return intact for Palestinian refugees;

  International boycott against Israel’s policy of Apartheid;

We endorse the Cairo Declaration of 2010; the United Palestinian call of July 2005 for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) to compel Israel to comply with international law; the Palestinian Campaign for Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI); and all other initiatives to end the occupation of Palestine.

Therefore, we urge and a commitment to develop and participate in the movement of the global community to cooperate with the Palestinian people for the independence of Palestine. We will also accelerate the formation of the Palestine Solidarity for Asia Society, in the form of a combination of community organizations, party-political parties, social movements and civil society institutions throughout the Asia community.

Taking a serious view of:

Israel’s collective punishment sustained by the occupation and the blockade of Gaza;

Placement / illegal occupation of the West Bank, including East Jeruselam, and the continuing development of the Jewish houses and the construction of separation wall;

Denying the democratic rights of the Palestinian people as shown by Israel, the United States, Canada, the European Union, and other post-2006 Palestinian elections in Gaza;

Genocide in the form of a war crime to remove the Palestinians by Israel;

A variety of threats that continue to occur to destroy al-Aqsa mosque and Qubattus Sakhra, as well as the many Christian holy sites as a result of Judaisation on these sites as well as all the historic sites in Palestine without mercy;
* Continuing discrimination and oppression faced by Palestinians who had lived in the territory of Israel;
* Exodus of Palestinians out of millions of Palestinian refugees;
* Zionist ideology which became the basis for Israel and a source of inspiration and legitimacy of the racist and oppressive measures,

We are committed to:

Building solidarity with the Asian community for Palestinian independence;

Provide assistance in kind, human resources, and volunteers to support the struggle of the Palestinian people;

Support and strengthen the boycott of Israeli products in addition to efforts to terminate the financial companies that directly support the occupation and / or the Israel-owned industries;

The campaign for not working with academic institutions, cultural and sporting events which includes Israel;

Protest against government decisions and actions that support our country’s own economic, financial, military and diplomatic Israel and the actions and decisions that allow Israel to act arbitrarily;

Launch a campaign to prosecute and punish the regime of Israel for their various war crimes;

Reaffirm the UN Resolution 3379 which equates Zionism with Racism, with the support of the international community.

Therefore we demand the Zionist regime of Israel to immediately:

    End the blockade of Gaza;

End illegal construction by Israel, breaking down barriers and to close the road blocks (check points), which has transformed into a prison of Palestine-while-open of the largest concentration camps in the world

Respect the sanctity of the sites of Muslims and Christians in the Palestinian territories and stop their evil plans against al-Aqsa mosque and Qubbat-us Sakhra;

Stop the murder plans against the leaders of the Palestinian state while brutal violence, torture and murder of civil citizens indiscriminately;

Freeing the men, women and children of Palestinians in prison, which amounts to more than 11,000 people.

We urge our government to:

Cut off all relations, whether open or secret, with Israel;

  Using international forums including the UN Security Council and the International Criminal Court (ICC) to seek accountability for Israeli crimes against humanity and war crimes;

Full support of economic, political, diplomatic and military aid to the Palestinian resistance movement against their invaders;

Support the boycott campaign, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS), which was initiated by Palestinian civil society.

We unite with all peoples’ movements and national resistances, peace loving citizens and democratic states of the world for the establishment of a sovereign, independent and democratic state of Palestine with Jerusalem as the capital.

Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid
Chairman, “Asian Caravan to Gaza” Conference

Over the past several months, a group of 45 Palestinians from all walks of life — men and women, on the political right and left, secular and religious, politicians, academics, civil society and business actors, from occupied Palestine, inside Israel, and in the Diaspora participated in a workshop. After several workshops in Palestine and abroad and a continuous online debate, the group have produced the first iteration of “Regaining The Initiative: Palestinian Strategic Options To End Israeli Occupation.” The document is posted at www.palestinestrategygroup.ps and reflects an alternative to an official but impotent Palestinian discourse that will very shortly, in the judgment of most Palestinians, run head-on into a brick (cement) wall.

Download “Regaining The Initiative: Palestinian Strategic Options To End Israeli Occupation” [.pdf format]

Palestinian society is a dynamic, thinking society which has been so battered and demeaned by Israel and its supporters that many folk, including many Palestinians themselves, will be surprised that the Palestinians have any options whatsoever. One thing is for sure: no matter how long the illegal Israeli occupation continues, do not expect the Palestinians to wake up one morning and accept that they are somehow less human than any other free person in this world.

The Palestinian people have given everyone — including their own traditional leadership — plenty of time to end this humiliating and brutal occupation. When all else fails, Palestinians will reclaim the initiative, and will continue to do so over and over, until this occupation is consigned to the trash bin of history, along with all the war criminals who allowed it to persist for so many years.

15 May 2008 marks the 60th anniversary of the Nakba, the grave catastrophe of 1948 in which Zionist militant forces invaded and destroyed more than 500 Palestinian villages through massacre and intimidation, causing not less than 700,000 Palestinians to become refugees. It is an account of human tragedy: the destruction of families, a civilization, culture and identity.

The Palestinian people are not only Muslims; the internally displaced population and that which has been displaced subsequent to the illegal formation of Israel is composed of a multi-religious and in some sense multi-racial population. It is a problem impacting all of humanity, not merely Jews and Muslims.

On this day, our hearts go out to all the Palestinians and we stand in solidarity with them in mourning the Nakba of 1948; we support their resistance of the Israeli occupation of historic Palestine; we strongly codemn the 1967 territorial expansion which continues to facilitate the expansion of the Zionist colonial agenda until today.

We are extremely appalled at the distortions and lies that the pro-Israel lobby has disseminated through global media as a result of Palestinian resolve resulting from these acts. This has led to widespread stereotyping of Muslims, Islamophobia and ignorance in the world community concerning the truth of the conflict.

It is almost impossible to speak about the Nakba without speaking about taking responsibility and repairing the historical injustice that was committed against the Palestinian people. Such repair must emphasize first and foremost the recognition of the rights of Palestinians to return.

We stand in solidarity with all Palestinians in their struggle for freedom and self-determination and strongly reiterate the following:

Our demand that Israel cease its  siege of Gaza and lift its blockade to allow for the free flow of people, food,  humanitarian aid and energy to the Palestinians in Gaza. According to the  4<sup>th</sup> Geneva Convention, collective punishment is a crime;

Our further demand of the  cessation and action-reaction syndrome that intensifies with each new incident,  and the blatant excessive, extra-territorial incursions by Israel;

Our denunciation of all  illegitimate Israeli settlements in occupied Palestine and demand immediate  demolition of the apartheid wall. Both settlements and the wall violate the  rights of Palestinians through illegal land confiscation, home demolitions, and  restrictions of movement;

Our opposition towards  prejudice, including racism and anti-Semitism, in all its forms, and insistence  that the Israeli government’s policies toward the Palestinian people manifest  both racism and state terrorism;

Our strong urge to all nations, particularly the United States and its Western allies to give due regard to the interests of all parties to the dispute in the Middle East, and especially encourage those who would be peacemakers to be impartial in their approach, and not show favor nor fail to condemn either party for the breach of any agreements; and

Our demand that Israel recognize all Palestinians’ Right of Return, as guaranteed in the United Nations’ General Assembly Resolution 194. The refugees are mentioned in Article 11, which resolved: “… that the refugees wishing to return to their homes and live at peace with their neighbors should be permitted to do so at the earliest practicable date, and that compensation should be paid for the property of those choosing not to return and for loss of or damage to property which, under principles of international law or in equity, should be made good by the Governments or authorities responsible.”

Rouhaifa’s paintings on exhibition have all been created in the short time period from June to September 2007 and are an expression of art which is born under harshest conditions, the despair of dispossession and loss of the Palestinians, and the hope for a better life one day in their own homeland.

In addition to Rouhaifa, twelve local artists, such as Dato’ Syed Ahmad Jamal, Dr. Zakaria Ali, Ahmad Fuad Osman, Tan Sei Hon, Patrik Lasak and Long Tien Shih to name a few, will also be participating.

What drives a young, well-educated Westerner to volunteer as a “peace activist” instead of learning about hair restoration in the Middle East?

Caiomhe Butterly is one of a growing number of volunteers who risk their own safety to intervene in the long-running and bloody conflict between Israel and Palestine. Several internationals, including her, have now been injured. Some have died.

In this film, she describes witnessing the aftermath of the attack on Jenin in April 2002. The film follows her work, the main emphasis being “the accompaniment of communities at risk”. Despite being threatened, shot in the leg and deported later that year, she is determined to go back.

In the interim, she brings her story back to her native Ireland at public meetings, receives a Time Magazine “European Hero Award”, and travels to post-war Iraq to visit the Palestinian refugee camps. She arrives back in Jenin, shortly before a young woman from that community,Hanadi Jaradat, blows herself up in a suicide bombing in Haifa.

Activists such as Butterly are usually stereotyped as lunatics, meddlers or saints. This film offers an insight into a brave, honest, determined yet self-critical woman who takes direct action to the limit, with no quest for glory. She also serves as a conduit into the everyday lives of Palestinians,who are also usually presented to the viewer in a one-dimensional way, as fighters or victims, heroes or fanatics. The film gives us a rare chance to see what she calls “the spaces of beauty and joy” created by a people under occupation.

“An astonishing piece of work, a wonderful film, quite unlike anything I’ve seen” — John Pilger

“…a passionate indictment of the Israeli military in the Jenin refugee camp…this is raw, urgent movie-making” — The Guardian

We invite you to RSVP and join us for the documentary screening on Sunday 29th July 2007, 9am – 12 noon at the Auditorium, Islamic Arts Museum, Jalan Perdana, Kuala Lumpur . Admission is free. Contact: MSRI at 42528699 or ABIM at 42569822 Olsen Brothers, The lyrics

A Big Thank You To All Starbucks Customers
Written by Howard Schultz
Tuesday, 11 July 2006

Dear Starbucks Customer,

First and foremost I want to thank you for making Starbucks the $6.4 billion global company it is today, with more than 90,000 employees, 9,700 stores, and 33 million weekly customers. Every latte and macchiato you drink at Starbucks is a contribution to the close alliance between the United States and Israel, in fact it is – as I was assured when being honoured with the “Israel 50th Anniversary Friend of Zion Tribute Award” – key to Israel’s long-term PR sccess.

Your daily chocolate chips frappucino helps paying for student projects in North America and Israel, presenting them with the badly needed Israeli perspective of the Intifada. Starbucks, through the Jerusalem Fund of Aish HaTorah, an international network of Jewish education centres, sponsors Israeli military arms fairs in an effort to strengthen the special connection between the American, European and Israeli defense industries and to showcase the newest Israeli innovations in defense. As my contribution to the fight against the global rise of anti-Semitism, the reason behind the current conflict in the Middle-East, I help Aish HaTorah sponsoring the website “honestreporting.com” and produce material informing of Israel’s side of the story.

Withou you, my valued customer, I wouldn’t be able to raise hundreds of millions of dollars each year to support Israeli citizens from terrorist attacks and keep reminding every Jew in America, to defend Israel at any cost. $5 billion per year from the US government are no way near enough to pay for all the weaponry, bulldozers and security fences needed to protect innocent Israeli citizens from anti-Semitic Muslim terrorism. Corporate sponsorships are essential.

Having the bigger picture in mind, Starbucks have donated a store to the US army to help in the “War on Terror”. I cannot emphasise enough, how vital the “War on Terror” is for the continued viability and prospering of the Jewish State. So next time you feel like chilling out at a Starbucks store, please remember that with every cup you drink at Starbucks you are helping with a noble cause.

MANAMA, JUNE 12, (BNA) Bahrain society in support of Palestine called for rejuvenating commitment to the Arab Palestinian cause and mustering up fresh support to the Palestinian people by raising money for development projects in Palestine.

In a statement marking the 40th anniversary of Quds occupation, the Society highlighted the Judaization policies and stifling Apartheid Wall aimed at stripping Al Quds from its Arab identity, holding it captive and fragmenting it. The illegal and unbridled influx of Jews into Palestine are meant to displace Palestinians and deprive them of their fundamental rights as well as Judaize the city’s religious sanctities, the Society noted. The Arab-named Al Buraq Wall was forgely renamed as “The Weeping Wall” while the unabated and continuous digging threatens to pull down Al Aqsa Mosque which is also subject to explosive device attacks and forceful incursions and runs the risk of having part of it confiscated and allocated for Jewish prayers, the Society added.

Since 1967, the Israeli occupation forces have been tightening their strangehold on Al Quds by building around 30 settlements in its environs in a bid to create a Jewish majority by displacing Palestinian indigenous citizens and trying to efface their identity, the Society explained. Given its highly-venerated Islamic sanctities, topped by Al Aqsa Mosque, Al Quds will remain a stronghold of resistance and a beacon of home for liberation that keeps inspiring the coming generations, the statement asserted.

The second week of June will mark forty years since the occupation of the West Bank and Gaza in the 1967 Six Day war. This is now the longest enduring military occupation in the world. While the Israeli government evades negotiations that would end the occupation and lead to a just peace, the lives of Palestinians continue to be crushed daily by closures and economic strangulation, their land confiscated for settlements and their communities made into prisons by the Segregation Wall.

At the same time, violence in the region continues to supply ideological fuel for the G8 governments in their ‘War on Terror’, explicitly declared as a never-ending, pre-emptive global war which justifies erasing civil liberties, supporting oppressive regimes, and attacking refugees and migrants. We are all victims of this war: in Palestine and Israel, in Iraq and in Colombia, in Germany and in the U.S.A.

With the occupation at forty it should be clear to all that its forceful hegemony cannot be resisted by established political means alone. This is both morally insufficient and doomed to practical failure. As a strategic and practical alternative, the “Occupation 40″ coalition is calling for six days of actions to mark forty years of occupation, on June 6 to 12 2007. A Global Day of Action has also been called on June 9.

The coalition is a democratic and non-hierarchical action platform of grassroots Israeli groups and organizations. Peace organizations, artists, students’ groups, internal refugees, anarchists, animal rights activists, communists and individuals participate in this initiative. The six-day convergence in Israel will include demonstrations, direct actions, discussions and cultural events.

This is a call-out for international direct actions against the occupation on June 6-12. We call in particular for actions against corporations profiting directly from the occupation that publicly shame them and/or cause them economic damage. Information on corporations involved with the occupation is available from http://www.boycottisrael.co.uk and many other sources, including a recent report by War on Want available at http://www.waronwant.org/download.php?id=443.

We hope that actions will be organized to be decentralized and trust them to the initiative and self-organization of affinity groups around the world. These days of action fit well into this summer’s international action calendar:

    * June 5 – An international day of action against militarization, wars and occupations, in the run-up to the G8 summit in Germany.
* June 6-8 – Protests against the G8, with the participation of Palestinian and Israeli activists and Palestine Solidarity groups from around Europe.
* June 5-11 – 6 days of action against the Occupation, in Palestine/Israel and Internationally
* June 9 – Rally in London , Global Day of Action Against the Occupation
* June 10-11 – Protest, teach-in and lobby in Washington DC

Please distribute this call widely, and please organise for action with your groups and networks. We can use this symbolic moment to hit out at those who benefit and profit from the pain and despair in Palestine , and to send the Israeli and G8 governments a message they cannot ignore.

Dear friends,

The nightmare in Iraq worsens daily. It’s make-or-break time — but next Thursday in Egypt, we could start to turn the tide. Because on May 3rd – for the first time ever – top US and Iraqi leaders will meet with Iran and Syria plus international powers. They can agree on negotiations to end the war — or escalate their bloody conflict.

Iraq: It Ends on May 3rd Avaaz is launching a major advertising and text-message campaign inside Iraq this week to bring Iraqi voices to this decisive meeting. As citizens around the world, let’s join our voices with theirs to end this war — sign the petition calling for negotiations and a withdrawal of US troops here:

http://www.avaaz.org/en/iraq_new_plan/

To make sure we’re heard, we’ll hand-deliver our petition to the leaders’ conference in Sharm El-Sheikh on May 3rd, and project Iraqi text-messages on to a huge wall near the US Capitol building in Washington.

Thousands of Iraqi Avaaz members have supported our N.E.W. plan — for all-party “Negotiations”, “Empowering” international mediators and the responsible “Withdrawal” of US troops. Please read the personal email below from Khalid, an Iraqi Avaaz member. Khalid and our other Iraqi members need a show of global support from the rest of us. The campaign is already supported by over 75,000 people as well as key international experts — let’s gather a massive, united voice of Iraqis and citizens round the world to tell our leaders to do the right thing in Iraq:

http://www.avaaz.org/en/iraq_new_plan/

With hundreds of thousands dead and 4 million made refugees, just criticising the US government for this catastrophe is not enough. It’s now the responsibility of all of us to help save Iraq, and the only solution is a political solution.

Khalid Jarrar and his mother Faiza Jarrar have been wonderful supporters of Avaaz in Iraq. We asked Khalid to write a message to Avaaz members, here’s what he emailed us yesterday:

alright:)
feel free to edit it if its too long.
and just for the record, i am not a drama queen, these were written for real, and tears in my eyes are my witness…

Dear AVAAZ,

I want to introduce myself, and tell you a story, but i don’t know how to start, and where to stop.

My name is Khalid, i am an environmental engineering student and i am 24, but this is the least important to know about me, what’s really important for me to tell, and for you to know, is that I am Iraqi, and that I have a deep, deep wound in my soul, that has been bleeding for over four years now.

Iraq, my soul, is bleeding. And i had to leave it against my will, because of the incredibly bad security situation that led to me getting kidnapped and my family paying a huge ransom, which made me leave immediately after i was released in fear that i would be kidnapped again. I left Iraq one month before my graduation and had to come to Jordan, which made me lose two years of my university time and life, but even worse, made me lose the company of the Tigris and the Euphrates.

I had to travel, leaving Iraq behind me, to live like a refuge, one of a million other refuges, in a country of less than five millions people, that already has its own financial problems without needing our additional burden to add to it. I am an Iraqi refuge in Jordan.

Since I left in July 2005, things have exponentially deteriorated in every possible aspect, now people hardly get 1 hours of electricity a day, they have water problems, regular lack of gas that its prices multiplied about 20 times since the war. Let alone the main and real problems of the actual presence of an occupation that is leaching on the country and causing the destruction to its people, unity, sovereignty, infrastructure and economy.

Iraq is the loving mother, that gave birth to thinkers and builders, people that enriched humanity with their contributions in all aspects of life, people that their civilization accumulated for over 7000 years till now.

Iraq, the noble wisdom, the land of the two flowing rivers, the land of the mosques and churches, is in crises, and needs your help.

yes.
it needs your help.

Iraqis need the support of the world, of every human being that believes in the values of justice and peace, of every person that cares about the judgment of history on what the world did when Iraq needed its support the most. Iraq, needs your voice, to support the voices of its own people, to help remove that injustice, and help it rise up again and stand on its feet.

Help us demand to give Iraq back to Iraqis, and to prove to the future generations once more, that occupations don’t last, that occupations are wrong, and that the will of people is invincible. Help us clear to them that our hearts and minds, our values and sense of justice, are stronger than any tank, battleship or rocket. Help us by singing AVAAZ petition that will be presented to the politicians discussing the future of Iraq security, help by asking your friends to do so, let our voices be louder than the roars of weapons and the madness of greeds, help us, sign AVAAZ petition now, let our voice be heard, support Iraq today, and once the last occupying soldier leaves iraq, and once we rebuild our country with out own hands, we will reciever you in Baghdad, and you will see the love and gratitude competed by nothing but Iraqi hospitality. Together we can prove that our brotherhood is strong, together we can prove that our bonds are real, I can see that day coming, really soon.

Khalid

Based on the generous initiative announced by Saudi King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz and under the sponsorship of his majesty, Fatah and Hamas Movements held in the period February 6 – 8, 2007 in Holy Mecca the dialogues of Palestinian conciliation and agreement and these dialogues, thanks to God, ended with success and an agreement was reached on the following:

First: to ban the shedding of Palestinian blood and to take all measures and arrangements to prevent the shedding of Palestinian blood and to stress the importance of national unity as the basis for national steadfastness and confronting the occupation and to achieve the legitimate national goals of the Palestinian people and adopt the language of dialogue as the sole basis for solving political disagreements in the Palestinian arena.

Within this context, we offer gratitude to the brothers in Egypt and the Egyptian security delegation in Gaza who exerted tremendous efforts to calm conditions in Gaza Strip in the past period.

Second: Final agreement to form a Palestinian national unity government according to a detailed agreement ratified by both sides and to start on an urgent basis to take the constitutional measures to form this government.

Third: to move ahead in measures to activate and reform the Palestine Liberation Organisation and accelerate the work of the preparatory committee based on the Cairo and Damascus Understandings.

It has been agreed also on detailed steps between both sides on this issue.

Fourth: to stress on the principle of political partnership on the basis of the effective laws in the PNA and on the basis of political pluralism according to an agreement ratified between both parties.

We gladly announce this agreement to the Palestinian masses and to the Arab and Islamic nation and to all our friends in the world. We stress our commitment to this agreement in text and spirit so that we can devote our time to achieve our national goals and get rid of the occupation and regain our rights and devote work to the main dossiers, mainly Jerusalem, refugees, Al-Aqsa mosque, prisoners and detainees and to confront the (West Bank separation) wall and settlements.

The Palestine PM, Ismail Haniyeh criticized in an interview with the Palestinian leading news-agency, Ramattan, the hanging of the former President Saddam Hussein – he said that “one of the dimensions of the execution was political” and it has deeply touched the feelings of the Muslim communities as it was effected in the Muslim Eid Al-Adha.

Ismail Haniyeh, just returned from his pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia said “many oppressors who have exercised all forms of persecution against peoples would not have been brought to justice – had there been justice in dealing with the file of president Saddam Hussein? – Where is the international justice towards what many Israeli leaders have been exercising throughout the past decades against the Palestinian people?”

The Prime Minister called the Palestinians from Mecca to unite firmly against the hard challenges “This is the message of the pilgrims – and we, from this hallowed place stress the importance of the national unity,” he said.

When asked about the swap deal agreed by the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israel’s Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Haniyeh said “the agreement brought about nothing new”- and that there were no new results regarding the issue of the prisoners.

Haniyeh also slammed the Israeli government as saying that, “the Israelis show no concern with ending the long suffering of the prisoners.”The Israeli stand is arrogant that is based on procrastination, with aim of gaining time.”Haniyeh accused rightly the Israelis of making advantages of any meeting with an Arab leader to salvage its slumping general relations and to rescue the decreasing approval ratings of its Prime Minister which he got by his government’s weak show against the militias of Hezbollah.
